Shirt Dress Reveal
Okay, so this post is kind of late. Three weeks ago I gave the Shirt Dresses I made to the little girls I'm staying with. One week ago I took pictures of them. Last night we finally got the pictures onto the computer. Phew. Took us long enough! And here they are:
As you see, they proceeded to let their princesses go for a swim. They then followed them into the pool. Half soaked, they finally stripped their dressed off and went for a swim which is where I stopped taking pictures.
Just a tip, remember that shoulders are often wider than hips. That mean you'll either need to make the waist band bigger and add elastic or have them step into the dress. Thankfully the dresses fit with a little tugging over the younger ones diaper.
You can find a tutorial for this dress at MADE.
Now if you even just KNOW a little girl, make them a dress! They're SO simple especially with the above tutorial. It even gets easier the more you make.
I'm going to finish up before my laptop dies.
Happy dressmaking :)

Customized Play Mat using Spoonflower
Over at Modern Parents Messy Kids, I found a great idea for making a personalized baby play mat from Spoonflower. Did I mention she included a whole detailed tutorial, too? Well she does! She gives step by step instructions that take you through creating your own fabric and then making your play mat.
Didn't hers turn out great?
Well, I really wanted to attempt this. I just couldn't think of any already born babies. Well, actually I know one, but he's already two months old and I can't tell you how jealous his older sisters would be. So I just scratched that idea. Then I remembered that one of my numerous cousins is currently pregnant with a baby girl. Did I mention I have about 45 or so cousins and around 7 second cousins? Well I do. Too many to count!
Anyway, I don't know when she's due, but I figured I'd just make the circle part of the fabric on Picnik.
Here's my girl-y attempt at her creation:
Just need to wait a few months until the baby is born, find out the information, send it into spoonflower, wait for my fabric, and then sew, sew, sew a lovely little play mat.
Fawnda from Fireflies and Jellybeans also made a lovely girly version.
I can't wait until this baby is born so I can get started :)
The only downside is that this fabric is kind of expensive. Oh, well! As long as none of my other cousins hope for something similar, I'll be fine!

Yes, another shirt dress!
Remember how I made a Shirt Dress for one of the little girl's I'm staying with in Mississippi? Well, I made another one for her big sister. I realized that I was leaving in less than a week and the clock was ticking so I had to start and finish it. Over at MADE, you can find the tutorial for this darling dress. I definitely made a few mistakes as you can see.
The shirt was stained to begin with and was in an awkward place that I couldn't cover up.
Luckily they weren't as noticeable from the outside
There wasn't a button near the bottom and I didn't want this dress to fly open and allow the little girl to show some leg, so I just did a running stitch all the way up to the top which sealed off everything.
I love it! I really hope the girls love them as much as I do!
And on a final note, before I go and ask people if they'd like to do a guest post within the next few weeks, is anyone willing to step forward?
Little Girl's Shirt Dress
Over at MADE, I fell in love with her Shirt Dress. Words cannot describe just how adorable it is. I instantly thought of the two beautiful girls ages 2 and 3 that I'm going to stay with in Mississippi.
I recommend drawing out half a pattern, cut out all but along the center line, fold it over and then trace it and cut out so you get a full pattern. The one on the right is my first try. Hahaha. FAIL.
If the sleeves seem extremely big, don't worry. It'll all work out.
Goodness it was a pretty big shirt, but almost not big enough!
I first raided my dad's closet. Not much luck there but then about 2 weeks ago at a garage sale I found a XL women's shirt for a dollar. It was perfect.

Finished. I LOVE it. This one is for the 2 year old. I didn't have any of her clothes to reference so most of it was just an estimation. I had her mom send me some measurements but for things like the sleeves and neckline, I had to guess. I'm not going to Mississippi to see those gorgeous southern belles until June 3rd but I'll definitely take some pictures and post them. For her older sister, I have a denim shirt but I'm a little stumped for a waistband. Any ideas?
Oh and if anyone would like to volunteer to guest post while I'm on vacation, I'd love to have someone. I've had two bloggers interested so far. But I don't think 2 is enough to fill up 5 weeks. Huh?
